The dog ate my homework

It’s been more than a month since I lasted posted on here. This ends now!

Not that I’ve been idle. Over the past month or two, I’ve been keeping BURN‘s monthly residency at Hackney Attic going (that’s the platform for moving-image work by cabaret artists I started in 2010), and doing a one-off mini-BURN for Amy Grimehouse’s John Waters Filthfest; developing Come With Me If You Want To Live, the quarterly cabaret I’m producing at Chelsea Theatre (the first one went well and the next one is on Friday July 11); developing a Masterclass on criticism for the Guardian (the first one went well and the next one is on July 26), which I’m also adapting into an ebook, out in July; writing for the Guardian about cabaret and queer cinema; and working as an editor for Sight & Sound and the Evening Standard. Plus a jaunt to the Brighton Fringe, hosting the launch of La JohnJoseph’s fabulous hit novel, working on a short film and prepping for an end-of-summer mini-festival at Chelsea and an exciting long-term project (more on that next week). Oh, and having a week’s hol.

Still, excuses excuses. If you do a blog, you should do a blog.

Today’s launch of the Edinburgh Fringe programme was a good spur to get back on the horse. Tomorrow I’ll be posting a hit-list of promising cabaret shows at the festival, along with details of my own plans at the Fringe, and I’ll aim to be much more regularly active on here between now and August – I’m hoping to average a couple of posts a week.

Erm. Honest.
