In January 2019, I passed the examination of my AHRC-funded, Queen Mary University of London-based PhD thesis, ‘Queer Fun, Family and Futures in Duckie’s Performance Projects 2010-2016’, and became Dr Duckie!
On Saturday 11 May, I’ll be on stage at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern talking about some of the ideas at the heart of it, then having a Q&A with Simon Casson from Duckie.
It’s about the power of homemade mutant hope machines – ways of thinking, feeling and acting that build better worlds – right here, right now – one day, one show, one dance at a time.
In a game of two halves – 45 mins spiel & 45 mins Q&A – I’ll report back from Duckie’s community-centric projects like The Posh Club, The Slaughterhouse Club, DHSS, Duckie Family and the ‘vintage’ events and show how they point the way to better futures.
It’s a free early-evening event and, if you come, you can stay for that night’s Duckie for free too.
All welcome. More details on Duckie’s website here or on the RVT website here.
