Edinburgh Fringe 2018: Scotsman reviews (1 of 2)

I was at the Edinburgh Fringe for a flying visit this year – a few days at the start of the festival – but racked up 14 reviews for the Scotsman. The first seven are linked below, with the rest to come. Details of shows can be found here and all are highly recommended.

I also hosted one edition of Cabaret Chinwag, with Murray Hill, Victoria Falconer and Mat Ricardo. That was fun. Here we are!

Cabaret Chinwag 2018: Murray Hill, Victoria Falconer, Ben Walters, Mat Ricardo

Murray Hill: About to Break
All slick parting, tight polyester, thin ’tache and chunky rings, the NYC maestro’s Fringe debut is long overdue.

Victoria Falconer: Oxymoron
The EastEnd Cabaret alum’s solo debut is a funny, irreverent, thoughtful and sometimes poignant attempt to make sense of difference.

Mat Ricardo vs the World
The master juggler commits to learning tricks set by the public and nearly loses his fingers. A treat as always.

Dusty Limits: Mandrogyny
The trajectory of a life less ordinary, from goth to kaftan, and an encouragement to cherish our own quirks.

Yana Alana: Between the Cracks
Powerhouse vocals, high-octane fun and a rage against injustice from a blue cabaret dynamo.

Dandy Darkly’s All Aboard!
The loquacious lyricist of phantasmagorical fripperies takes things to a new level.

Peter Straker Sings Brel
An electrifying, pared-back set capturing the drama and emotional intensity of the master.
