As you might know, over the past year I’ve been part of RVT Future, a campaign that aims to ensure a thriving future for the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, which is thought to be the UK’s oldest LGBTQ pub and iconic performance venue.
As part of that campaign, with support from many fellow RVT Future members and other friends of the Tavern, I researched and wrote up a two-part 30,000-word application to make the RVT a listed building.
We’re expecting to hear the result of that application any day now. In the meantime, we’ve made the documents available to the public. If you’re into that kind of thing, you can check them out here at the RVT Future website.
You can also click here to read the initial application.
And click here to see the accompanying illustrations.
And click here to read Historic England’s interim report responding to the application.
And click here to read the supplementary application responding to the response.
UPDATE: the application was successful and the RVT is now the country’s first building listed for its LGBTQ+ heritage!
